The Market

Today Pete and I went on an excursion. I was bound and determined to be a tourist for the day therefore we decided to go down to the market and enjoy and afternoon. We left the house around 1:00 after a relaxing morning drinking coffee, reading and working out at the gym. By the time we arrived at the market we were starving. This was a good things as Pete decided to splurge and order us crab. These were southern crabs, nothing like anything that I have ever seen in the states. The waiter told us that they were caught in the freezing waters at the southern most tip of Chile and once we saw the little fellow we could tell by the looks of him that he had lived a rough and wonderful life.

After lunch Pete and I wandered through the market and then out to the plaza where we purchased our first piece of Chilean art. Now mind you we have a beautiful flat with absolutely no furniture. Some may say that our priorities are a little backward and that's Okay. We never said we were ordinary.

The evening brought more excitement as we were invited to attend a premier opening of a Chilean movie. The movie was in dogma style (which means that the camera was hand held and not always in focus), set in the 80's in Chile during the Pinochet era. The movie was very dark and depressing yet the experience was one to remember for years to come. We were at a normal movie theater with special invites that allowed approximately 300 individuals in to watch the movie in four different theaters. The Director and co-producer were there and they said a few words before the movie began. It reminded me of last year when we went to Telluride for the film festival.

After the movie we attended an after hours party that was my favorite part. We went to an old building that was absolutely fabulous. It had three stories that were connected with this rickety old staircase that was open to the rooms below (almost a loft effect in a huge room). The night ended with us dancing for a few hours and then falling into bed around 3:00 a.m.

That's the latest I have stayed up in years.
